    Best Cash Back Card With 5% Bonus Categories

    This Card Is Right for You If:

    You want to earn extra cash back in rotating bonus categories. Discover gives you 1% back on all purchases and 5% back on up to $1,500 each quarter in purchases in rotating categories such as gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants and more. (You must activate the bonus categories quarterly to earn the 5%.) With Chase Freedom®, you'll earn 1% back on all purchases and 5% back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases in bonus categories each quarter you activate. You're also eligible for a $150 intro bonus after you spend $500 in purchases on the card within the first three months of account opening. There is no annual fee.

    Best Simple Travel Rewards Card

    This Card Is Right for You If:

    You want to earn easy-to-use travel rewards without being tied to a specific airline or travel program. You'll earn an unlimited 2 miles per $1 spent on every purchase, plus the chance to earn 70,000 bonus miles after spending $5,000 on purchases in the first 90 days of opening the account. Booking travel is easy—you simply pay for your airline tickets or hotel reservations with the card and redeem your miles for travel statement credits. You also get 5% back to use toward your next redemption every time you redeem. There are no foreign transaction fees, so it's a great card to take abroad. The annual fee is $89, waived the first year.

    This Card Is Right for You If:

    You want to earn easy-to-use travel rewards without being tied to a specific airline or travel program—and you like to book hotels at Hotels.com. You'll earn an unlimited 2 miles per $1 spent on every purchase, plus 10 miles per $1 spent on hotels booked through hotels.com/venture through January 2020. The card also offers 50,000 bonus miles after you spend $3,000 in purchases during the first three months of opening the account. Simply pay for travel with the card and redeem your miles for travel statement credits. You also get up to $100 to cover the application fee for Global Entry or TSA Pre-Check. The $95 annual fee is waived the first year, and there are no foreign transaction fees.

Redeeming travel rewards is easy—there are no blackout dates or restrictions, and you get a 25% bonus when you redeem for airfare, hotels, car rentals and cruises through Chase Ultimate Rewards®. You can also take advantage of transferring points on a 1-to-1 basis to several leading hotel and airline loyalty programs. There are no foreign transaction fees, so you can take this card with you anywhere in the world. It comes with a $95 annual fee.

    You want to earn and use travel rewards and are willing to pay an annual fee. If you prefer Citi to Chase, this is another strong travel rewards card to keep in your wallet. You earn 3 points per $1 spent on travel, including at gas stations; 2 points per $1 spent on dining and entertainment; and 1 point per $1 spent on everything else. Earn a generous 50,000-point intro bonus after you spend $4,000 in purchases in the first three months of opening the account. There are no foreign transaction fees on purchases, and the $95 annual fee is waived the first year. Points are redeemable for airfare on any airline at anytime when you book through the ThankYou® Travel Center, which also gives you a 25% bonus in redemption value up to 50,000 points.

    Best Secured Card With Rewards and an Option to Upgrade

    This Card Is Right for You If:

    You want to earn cash back on your spending and hope to transition to an unsecured line of credit. This is hands-down one of the best secured cards on the market: There's no annual fee, and you earn 2% cash back at gas stations and restaurants (on up to $1,000 in combined purchases every quarter) and 1% back on all other purchases. Discover will also automatically match all the cash back new cardmembers earn at the end of their first year. After you've had the card for eight months, Discover will review your account to determine whether it will transition you to an unsecured line of credit (and refund your deposit). Note: You must have a bank account to be eligible for this card.
