Denied Credit

Have you recently applied for a loan or new credit card, only to be denied?

Some reasons are obvious — for example, lenders look disparagingly at multiple late payments, defaults, a foreclosure, a short sale or a bankruptcy in your recent past. But whether or not you’re clear on the reasons, the Fair Credit Reporting Act requires the credit card company or lender in question to provide an explanation along with a free credit report. If your application was through Experian, log on to Experian’s Report Access and click on “Get my report now” (or call 1-888-EXPERIAN).

More Reasons for Credit Refusal:

  • Lack of credit history
  • No recent credit activity
  • Too much debt
  • Credit balances close to your credit limit
  • Economic factors
  • Fraud alerts
