If you fly frequently and don't want to deal with the hassle of long security lines, consider getting a credit card that offers a statement credit to cover the application fee for a Global Entry or TSA Precheck membership. These programs, called Trusted Traveler Programs, can help you get to your gate faster and allow you to skip the hassle of taking off your shoes or removing electronics and liquids from your bags.

Several credit cards offer these statement credits. Determining which will be best for you could depend on the specific terms for when and how you receive the statement credit, along with the cards' other features and fees. Here are our top picks.

You'll receive the statement credit after you submit your first application, and then can get another statement credit once every four years. Program memberships are valid for five years, and TSA Precheck costs $78 for new enrollees, Global Entry costs $100 and NEXUS costs $50—so the statement credit is enough to cover your costs for one of these programs.

To receive the statement credit, you or an authorized user will have to use the credit card to pay the application fee. It can then take one to two billing cycles to receive the statement credit, and you'll be responsible for your credit card bill during this time. Your card also has to be open and in good standing to receive the credit.

Although the Chase Sapphire Reserve® has a $550 annual fee, you also receive an annual $300 travel credit that can reimburse you for other travel purchases. Cardholders can also get complimentary access to 1,300-plus airport lounges worldwide after enrolling in Priority Pass™ Select and there are no foreign transaction fees.

The Platinum Card® from American Express

The Platinum Card® from American Express has many travel-related benefits and statement credits. Unlike typical credit cards, The Platinum Card® from American Express allows you to carry a balance for certain charges, but not all. Terms apply.

With the card, you'll get up to $100 in statement credits toward a Global Entry application fee once every four years, or up to $85 toward a TSA Precheck application fee once every 4.5 years (terms apply). It can take up to eight weeks to receive the statement credit, and your card must still be active to qualify.

Additionally, the card offers an annual $189 statement credit that can cover the cost of an annual Clear Plus membership, subject to auto-renewal. The membership gives you access to special airport security lines at select airports, but you'll still have to take off your shoes and remove electronics and liquids from your bags unless you also have Global Entry or TSA Precheck.

There is a high $695 annual fee (see Rates & Fees), but the card doesn't have a foreign transaction fee and you'll get other travel-related benefits. These include $200 in annual hotel statement credits for bookings through American Express Travel using the card (limited to qualifying properties), unlimited access to the American Express Global Lounge Collection and $200 in annual statement credits toward qualifying incidental travel fees on one qualifying airline.

Bank of America® Premium Rewards® credit card

The Bank of America® Premium Rewards® credit card will give you up to a $100 statement credit toward either a Global Entry or TSA Precheck application fee once every four years. It may take two to three weeks for the statement credit to post to your account.

In addition to the Global Entry or TSA Precheck statement credit, you can get an annual $100 credit to use toward eligible incidental airline purchases, such as seat upgrades, baggage fees and in-flight services on select domestic flights. You can even use the incidental fee credit to offset access fees for eligible airlines' airport lounges.

The credit card doesn't have any foreign transaction fees, but there is a $95 annual fee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Global Entry vs. TSA Precheck

Global Entry and TSA Precheck memberships last for five years, and they both give you the same benefits when you're flying domestically—access to special airport security lines and fewer requirements during the security screening. Global Entry additionally offers expedited U.S. Customs and Border Protection screening if you're flying to the U.S. from another country.

Can I Use the Global Entry or TSA Precheck Credit for Someone Else?

The credit cards' terms require you to use the credit card for the application or renewal fees if you want to receive the statement credit, but you don't have to pay for your own membership. You can pay someone else's fee, which could also be a great way to use the benefit if you have multiple cards that offer these statement credits.

How Does the Reimbursement for Global Entry or TSA Precheck Work?

If you qualify, you will get reimbursed with a statement credit for up to $100 to cover the cost of applying for Global Entry ($100) or TSA Precheck ($70 to $78). However, it may take one to two billing cycles for you to receive the statement credit. Continue paying your credit card bill during this time to avoid late payments.
