If you're craving a credit card that doesn't come with a whole lot of fine print, and you don't care about earning rewards, the Citi Simplicity® Card - No Late Fees Ever might be just what you're looking for. As its name implies, this card keeps things simple with no annual fee, no late fee and no penalty annual percentage rate (APR). If you've ever missed a payment on a credit card in the past and suffered the pain of late fees and high penalty APRs, you'll understand the appeal of the Citi Simplicity® Card - No Late Fees Ever. The card also offers tempting introductory APRs on both new purchases and balance transfers.
No Annual Fee or Late Fee Ever
If you've got the good to excellent credit score that's necessary to qualify for this card, you're probably pretty good about paying your bills on time. That said, if you do happen to miss a due date for the Citi Simplicity® Card - No Late Fees Ever, you won't be hit with a late payment fee or see your APR soar: This card doesn't charge a late fee or penalty APR. There's really no reason to miss a payment, though, because Citi makes it easy to pay on time. You can choose your own due date from available dates at the beginning, middle or end of the month. Time your payment to come due when you have the most money (like right after payday) or when you're most likely to remember it.
There's no annual fee for the Citi Simplicity® Card - No Late Fees Ever, but there is a 3% foreign transaction fee, so you'll want to leave this card at home next time you travel abroad. If you're a frequent international traveler, this may not be the best card for you, since there are plenty of other cards that don't tack on foreign transaction fees.
To help keep your credit score in good shape, the Citi Simplicity® Card - No Late Fees Ever gives you free access to your FICO® Score* . Citi will alert you by email, text or phone if it notices suspicious activity on your account. If your identity is ever compromised, Citi's identity theft solution services will step in to help you resolve the problem. You can also rest easy knowing you have 0% liability for unauthorized charges.
Long Interest-Free Period on Balance Transfers
Are you carrying a big balance on another credit card? If you want to save some money, consider transferring it to the Citi Simplicity® Card - No Late Fees Ever, which offers a 21-month interest-free period on balance transfers for new cardholders. Although this is longer than the typical 12- to 18-month 0% interest period many credit cards offer, it does come at a cost: You'll have to pay a larger-than-average balance transfer fee of 5% of the transfer amount or $5 minimum. (Most cards charge 3%.) You'll also need to complete all balance transfers within four months to benefit from this introductory APR.
The Citi Simplicity® Card - No Late Fees Ever includes an introductory offer of 12 months of 0% APR on purchases too. That's a nice bonus, but if you're really trying to save on interest, you can find several credit cards that stretch the same introductory offer to 15 months or more.
There's a Tradeoff Between Fees and Rewards
Choosing the credit card that's best for your needs can mean making compromises. In the case of the Citi Simplicity® Card - No Late Fees Ever, you'll give up the chance to earn cash back and other rewards. In return, you'll get minimal fees, a reasonably generous introductory APR period on purchases, and an extremely generous introductory APR period on balance transfers. If you want a credit card that offers rewards, however, this isn't the ideal card for you.
If rewards are what you're after, consider the Citi® Double Cash Card. It has no annual fee, gives you up to 2% cash back on every purchase and offers 9 months of 0% APR on both purchases and balance transfers.
