How Do I Stop Receiving Credit Card Offers in the Mail?

You can "opt out" of receiving preapproved or prescreened credit offers from mailing lists generated for lenders by Experian and the other national credit reporting agencies. To do so, call 1 888 5OPTOUT (1 888 567 8688) or go online to www.optoutprescreen.com and follow the instructions. Your request will be shared with each of the nationwide credit reporting agencies.

When you call to opt out, you can choose to have your name removed from mailing lists for five years or permanently. If you select the option for permanent removal, you will be mailed a Notice of Election to Opt Out form to complete and return.

Before choosing to opt out, considered the potential benefits of receiving preapproved offers. Preapproved offers create more competition for your business. That results in more choice for you regarding the most favorable terms and conditions.

Preapproved offers also expand your access to credit products to a national marketplace. Receiving offers helps you shop for the best terms, interest rates and incentives. Any offers you do not wish to accept can simply be shredded. You can always say no.

When you opt-out, you are essentially removing yourself from the credit marketplace. While you might not be looking for new credit now, you may be at some time in the future. Preapproved offers provide opportunity and choice you may find beneficial the next time you need credit, so give careful consideration before making the decision to opt out.
