Karen Axelton is Experian’s in-house senior personal finance writer. She has over 20 years of experience as a journalist and has written or ghostwritten content for a variety of financial services companies.

Karen began her personal finance journey by writing about small business finance topics, including financial management, loans and credit, before expanding into consumer-focused personal finance issues. She is passionate about promoting financial literacy to empower people to make smart financial decisions, achieve their goals and enjoy their lives.

Experience: Karen was an editor at Entrepreneur magazine for 20 years before moving to writing full time. Her clients have included financial services companies such as American Express, Bank of America, Banks.com, Biz2X, CAN Capital, C2FO, Fundbox, Fundera, Goldman Sachs, InsureOn, Intuit, Lending Club and MetLife. Karen began freelancing for Experian in 2019 and joined Experian full time in 2024.
