A civil judgment is one type of public record that can appear on your credit report. It is a debt you owe through the courts due to a lawsuit. If someone sues you for money and you lose, the judgment against you may appear on your credit report.

How Long Does a Judgment Stay on Your Credit Report

When you pay the judgment amount, your credit report will be updated automatically to reflect the information. However, the notation of the judgment will remain on our credit report for seven years from the date it was originally filed.

How Do You Remove a Judgment From Your Credit Report

  • If the judgment is accurate, it will remain on your credit report for seven years from the judgement date.
  • If a judgment appears on your credit report in error, you can file a dispute with the credit reporting agency.
