A financial brand can use the 'Premium Spend Index Elite' segment to target specific audiences, while another brand could use 'Premium Spend Index Upper Mid' to personalize offers based on demographic traits.

IQ: Match Level Flag V5 |
We’re excited to introduce SDOH version 2.3 of Experian’s Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) solution, designed to deliver more accurate, clinically grounded insights across four key factors:
Clinically Driven Models: We’ve transitioned from legacy proxy metrics to models built on diagnostic Z-codes, offering a deeper and more precise understanding of individual-level SDOH risks.
Smarter Feature Selection: By applying advanced feature selection across all ConsumerView variables, we’ve isolated high-signal inputs, enhancing both accuracy and relevance.
Modular Architecture: The new models are modular and independently maintained, making them easier to update, scale, and adapt as data sources evolve.
Balanced Risk Distribution: One of the most impactful improvements is distribution smoothing across SDOH risk bands. The new model achieves a more balanced population spread, targeting ~11% per band that results in more actionable and equitable insights.
Phasing Out “Relative Nutrition Risk”: As part of our commitment to clinical relevance and data integrity, we are retiring the “Relative Nutrition Risk” metric from the Food Insecurity domain. This change reflects our shift toward more robust and clinically validated indicators.
Our updated model goes beyond proximity and vehicle access. It now leverages clinical data from health facilities, providing a more nuanced view of healthcare accessibility. The updated model now aligns more closely with our design goal of placing approximately 11% of the population in each risk band. This creates a more balanced and representative view of risk, making insights easier to interpret and act on.
In addition to clinical indicators, SDOH 2.3 now incorporates age, occupation group, and technology literacy to deliver a more personalized assessment of SDOH risks. Most notably, we’ve transitioned from relying on county-level statistics to using individual-level data, enabling more precise and relevant insights tailored to each person’s unique circumstances.
By assessing multiple aspects of an individual’s financial and socioeconomic situation, the model delivers more realistic and actionable insights into transportation affordability and access.
SDOH 2.3 introduces a more equitable and clinically informed approach to evaluating medication access. The updated model expands beyond basic demographic proxies, such as estimated income and household composition, and now integrates both geographic distance to pharmacies and financial hardship indicators.
A key advancement is the model’s ability to identify individuals facing financial barriers to medication access with greater precision. It also resolves a major limitation of the previous version, which produced skewed scores concentrated at the extremes. The new model delivers a more balanced distribution across SDOH risk levels, aligning with the intended design of approximately 11% per band, resulting in more consistent and actionable insights.
The updated model introduces a dynamic, multi-factor framework that integrates clinical data and broader socioeconomic context, resulting in a more accurate and equitable identification of individuals at risk for inconsistent or unhealthy eating patterns.
Another key improvement is the shift from broad, location-based metrics to targeted, individual-level insights. The previous model often relied on aggregated data at the census block or state level, which did not reflect personal financial realities. The new approach leverages clinical indicators and personal financial information to provide a more precise and relevant assessment of financial barriers to food access.
This clinically grounded model incorporates diagnostic Z-codes that directly reflect food-related hardship, replacing outdated consumer data fields that are no longer supported. It also enhances risk identification by factoring in both financial hardships and logistical barriers, such as lack of transportation. Importantly, the score distribution is now more balanced, aligning with the intended design of approximately 11% of the population per SDOH risk level.
As part of these improvements, the Relative Nutrition Risk KPI has been retired, reinforcing our commitment to clinically validated measures.
The updated model introduces a more clinically grounded approach to identifying housing-related challenges. By incorporating diagnostic Z-codes, rather than relying on indirect demographic proxies like poverty level or recent mover status, the model delivers greater clarity and accuracy in assessing housing instability.
This shift enables more equitable classification of individuals at risk and resolves a key limitation of the previous version, which often produced skewed scores concentrated at the extremes. The new model achieves a balanced distribution across SDOH risk levels, aligning with the intended design of approximately 11% per band and supporting more consistent, actionable insights.
Clients receiving the old SDOH fields will need to transition and will likely need to receive both old and new for a period of time.

Experian retires data attributes twice per year. These retirements will be visible within our products and products using Experian Marketing Data attributes in the February and August extract releases.
Moving to twice per year allows clients ample notification of retirements and avoids ad hoc changes that may cause clients and products to consume changes in multiple successive months. These two months attempt to avoid the end/beginning of year, holiday times, summer vacation season, as well as the common fall/winter code freezes that many organizations experience.
Experian will strive to provide 1-year prior notice where possible for these retirements. The notification timeline and twice per year retirement create a regular expected cadence for clients.
In alignment with this process, the next planned retirement will occur in February 2026 and the fields currently scheduled for retirement are listed in this document below. New retirements of fields along with the retirement date will be communicated through future release notes.
NOTE: Exceptions to this planning will be made due to contractual, legal, or compliance reasons. These timeframes are outside of our control but should be minimal. (To support our clients as long as possible, ethnic data referenced in this release is not a retired field but will not be available in certain states as the regulation becomes effective.)
The attributes below are set to retire in February 2026. Please work with your Experian account team to remove these from your install file prior to the retirement date.
That last of the transactional data from July 2024 is being removed due to contract requirements. There is no replacement for this data.

In this section, we provide an overview of upcoming legislative changes that may impact our products and operations. We list the states where Experian has reviewed the legislation and determined an impact to Experian products and the effective dates of new laws going into effect. Experian will remove impacted data in the extract released prior to the effective date (i.e. impacted data will be removed from the December extract release when the effective date is January 1 as the extract releases the first Friday of the month.)
While we aim to keep you informed, we strongly advise you to consult your internal legal departments to interpret and understand these laws fully. This information is provided as a resource and should not be taken as legal advice. We are not liable for any interpretations or actions taken based on this information.
Experian evaluates impacted fields to understand the value to clients and risk of error to determine whether a field should be retired across all states or only as a state privacy law becomes effective. We have provided a list of fields, below, that are only being retired within states where the privacy law or operational constraints dictate the need. All other impacted fields have been fully retired in all states.
