Kentucky SB 162 Change Notification

This measure provides that a claimant will be disqualified from receiving unemployment benefits if they are under investigation for knowingly making a false statement or representation of material facts to obtain or increase benefit entitlement.

Effective Date

Immediately upon enactment

Kentucky Senate Bill 162 Implication to Stakeholders

Claimants will be impacted negatively. Employers on the other hand should view this as a positive action because it should reduce the amount of unemployment benefits charged to their accounts. High amounts of benefit charges removed from an employer’s account may impact future unemployment tax rates.

Recommended Action

Be sure to audit unemployment benefit statements for accuracy. If you are aware of a claimant in this situation but you see charges on your statement, contact the state at the number listed on the form to question the charges and get them removed.
