Virginia SB 1057 Change Notification

This measure changes some of the language in the statute to clarify the meaning of a few of the words. It also changes the amount of wages that could be earned that may disqualify the claimant for a week of benefits. The previous language stated, “Each eligible individual who is unemployed in any week shall be paid for such week a benefit equal to his weekly benefit amount less any part of the wages payable to him for such week which is in excess of $50”. The new language is changed to “in excess of $100”.

Effective Date

Immediately upon enactment

Virginia Senate Bill 1057 Implication to Stakeholders

Since the state raised the threshold for the claimant’s earnings, employers could see an increase in their unemployment benefit charges.
