Proud to Stand in Solidarity with our Black Community

The Experian Pride Network UK&I leadership team wish to vocalise the network’s support of the Black Lives Matter movement

Equality for everyone is our ultimate goal. The Pride movement has made significant strides towards LGBTQ+ equality but this isn’t enough. We must also strive towards race equality inside and outside of the LGBTQ+ community.

We acknowledge that the LGBTQ+ community is not free of racism. The Black members of our community deserve to feel safe and valued within the Pride movement, now and always. We realise that Black LGBTQ+ people may experience homophobia/biphobia/transphobia, gender bias and racism, and it is important to understand how the issues affect each other as well as acknowledging cultural challenges too.

We echo the content of the letter released by the Human Rights Campaign and signed by numerous LGBTQ+ organisations across America.

The leadership team also recognises the lack of diversity within itself as well as our network steering group. We want to amplify the voices of our Black LGBTQ+ community and allies and would welcome you to join our steering group where we will further develop racial equality within our Pride network and beyond.

If you want to take action you may choose to educate yourself, sign petitions or make donations to causes you feel strongly about.

Below is a list of orgs you may wish to help:

  • Emergency Release Fund – Raises and post bail for pre-trial LGBTQ+ individuals and the medically vulnerable in America.
  • The Bail Project – Nonprofit organization providing free bail assistance in America
  • Exist Loudly Fund – Supporting Queer Black young people in London and across the UK. The fundraiser, which currently has a goal of £10,000, will fund essential talks, workshops and mentorships to provide a space for young people to explore their identities in a safe and welcoming space.
  • Black Lives Matter UK – The official UK chapter of the global BLM movement
  • Show Racism The Red Card – An anti-racist educational charity providing workshops, training sessions, multimedia packages and a whole host of other resources to tackle racism throughout society.

Experian matches employee funding donations to Stop Hate UK.
