Hello.

00:00:00:29 – 00:00:04:16
My name is June Young Kim,
I’m an employee at Experian

00:00:04:24 – 00:00:07:04
and this is my credit story.

00:00:11:14 – 00:00:12:24
As a Korean native,

00:00:12:29 – 00:00:16:06
I came to the United States at the age of 14

00:00:16:21 – 00:00:21:06
I was born in Korea, and at 14
I came to the U.S. to study.

00:00:21:18 – 00:00:25:02
I went to middle school in San Jose
and after that, I was in Boston.

00:00:26:03 – 00:00:27:12
Coming out of college,

00:00:27:18 – 00:00:30:15
I was able to get a job
at a large bank in Boston,

00:00:30:17 – 00:00:35:17
Ironically, I was very ignorant
about value of good credit.

00:00:36:07 – 00:00:39:21
My parents often kept telling me

00:00:39:21 – 00:00:41:29
the importance of good credit history

00:00:42:13 – 00:00:44:17
but I often dismiss those advices

00:00:44:28 – 00:00:48:18
convinced that my employed status should suffice.

00:00:49:06 – 00:00:51:07
Despite my parents’ advice

00:00:51:15 – 00:00:54:03
I didn’t pay off my credit card from time to time

00:00:54:03 – 00:00:56:28
and didn’t monitor
my spending habits.

00:00:57:02 – 00:00:59:19
As a result, my credit score was very bad.

00:01:00:01 – 00:01:04:08
Unexpectedly, the subprime crisis hit the entire world.

00:01:04:20 – 00:01:08:03
And after seeing 27,000 people getting laid off,

00:01:08:10 – 00:01:11:19
which included my boss
and my friends,

00:01:11:19 – 00:01:17:28
I realized that my employed status
is not as stable as I thought.

00:01:17:28 – 00:01:20:16
After seeing the subprime crisis
I started to take notes of

00:01:20:16 – 00:01:25:05
my credit card payment due dates
so that I could make timely payment.

00:01:25:05 – 00:01:29:06
Also, to cut unnecessary expenses
I cut back on eating out

00:01:29:06 – 00:01:30:22
The lesson learned.

00:01:30:27 – 00:01:35:01
Now, I am fully cognizant
of good credit standing,

00:01:35:06 – 00:01:39:15
and I am glad that I was able
to realize it at an earlier age.

00:01:40:16 – 00:01:41:25
As a person grows,

00:01:42:05 – 00:01:44:00
there are times and circumstances

00:01:44:05 – 00:01:47:10
where good credit
is absolutely critical.

00:01:47:27 – 00:01:51:19
A good example would be a mortgage to buy a house.

00:01:51:28 – 00:01:52:28
These days,

00:01:53:14 – 00:01:56:21
I am still mindful of good credit

00:01:56:26 – 00:02:02:07
and timely payments
and my spending habits.

00:02:02:24 – 00:02:06:01
As an Experian member, I am grateful
for this opportunity to spread

00:02:06:06 – 00:02:09:28
the value of a good credit score
in both Korean and English.

00:02:10:07 – 00:02:11:11
Thank you very much.

00:00:00:29 – 00:00:04:16
Experian

00:00:04:24 – 00:00:07:04

00:02:02:24 – 00:02:06:01
Experian
