Removing Account in Dispute Notation

Dear Experian,

How can I get the wording "account in dispute" removed from my credit report?

- ADH

Dear ADH,

If you added it as a personal dispute statement, then you must request that it be removed.

When you dispute an account with your creditor, they may report the statement "account in dispute" with their account history while the dispute process is underway. When the dispute process is completed, they typically remove that statement. You might check with them to see why their records still show the dispute in progress.

From time to time I hear from people who have been told that they can dodge credit problems by disputing accounts because the account is removed from the credit report during the dispute. That simply isn't true.

The account will remain on the report while it is being disputed, but may have the notation you see associated with it until the dispute is completed. The account will not be removed or "suppressed" from the report while it is being disputed.

Thanks for asking.
