Reporting dispute results to other credit reporting companies

Dear Max,

I recently had a delinquent account dispute solved in my favor by disputing online with Experian. Does Experian send the results of my credit history improvement to the other credit reporting agencies?

Dear EFF,

Disputing online is the fastest way to submit and resolve issues with your credit history. I’m glad to know the process worked well for you.

Experian does not send the dispute results to the other national credit reporting companies. Instead, the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act requires that the lender notify the other credit reporting companies to which it reports its data of changes it made in response to your dispute.

Allow a few weeks for the updates to be made and then request your reports from the other companies. If the changes have not been made, follow the instructions they provide to dispute the account information on those reports.

If the lender fails to respond within the 30 days allowed by the FCRA, Experian will delete the account or late payment information because it could not be verified. A change made by Experian to your credit history will not result in changes by the other credit reporting companies.

In that situation, you need to get copies of your credit reports from the other companies and follow the dispute instructions they provide.
