Stocks, income and other financial assets are not part of your credit report

Dear Max,

I noticed that my income and stock brokerage accounts are not listed. Should the credit report include this information?

- KYO

Dear KYO,

Your credit report does not include stock brokerage accounts or any other financial assets. A credit report lists only your debts and debt-related public records.

Identifying information, credit accounts and their payment history, bankruptcy, tax liens and a record of who has accessed your credit history is all that appears on a credit report.

There is no information about checking or savings accounts, certificates of deposit, individual retirement accounts, income, real estate or other investments.

If income and assets are important to your lender and the type of account for which you are applying, you will be asked to provide that information and perhaps proof documentation for those assets.

Thanks for asking.
