Getting a free credit report after being declined
Dear Experian,
I have been denied credit. Can I get a free copy of my credit report?
- KHO
Dear KHO,
The Fair Credit Reporting Act provides for a free report if you have had adverse action taken, which includes having an application declined, but only from the credit reporting company that provided the report the lender used in making the decision.
The lender must give you instructions for requesting your credit report from that particular credit reporting company. Those instructions are usually included with the declination notice.
If an Experian credit report was used, you can request your free report at www.experian.com/reportaccess. Simply click on the “Get my report now” button and follow the instructions.
Thanks for asking.
