Instant Update Processing

Information entered via an Instant Update inquiry may update a tradeline with a serious derogatory status code, add a seriously derog tradeline to a consumer's file, and activate or deactivate Experian's Skip Locator service.  Valid Instant Update transactions are on Experian's database and ready for use within five seconds. 

General Inquiry Guidelines

An Instant Update inquiry must contain the following information:

  • Consumer's name and address
  • Social Security number
  • Account Number
  • End User (optional)
  • Purpose Type – choose from the drop down menu.
  • Terms - The terms of an account should reflect the months in which an account is to be paid.  Revolving accounts are always entered as ten (010) months.  For real estate loans (Type Codes 08, 19, 25, 26, 85, 87 and 5A), enter the number of years rather than months.
  • Amount - Clients should enter the amount of the account in hundreds of dollars unless it is a real estate loan.  A $3,000 loan would be entered as 030.  If less than $100, enter 000.  Real estate loans should be entered in thousands of dollars.  A $300,000 real estate loan would be entered as 300.
  • Full Dollar Amount - (optional) - Enter the full seven digit dollar amount.  When using the Full Dollar Amount field, the Amount field will be ignored. 
  • Open Date
  • Occurrence Date – enter the date of the first delinquency that led to the serious derogatory condition being reported. 
  • Payment Status – See chart below
  • ECOA code See chart below
  • Special Comment (optional)– See Chart below
  • Original Credit Grantor – (Required for Collection agencies) 
  • If a client only wants to update the "Original Loan Amount" field, they may enter the status code ZZ and all other required fields.  Experian's system recognizes the inquiry as a request to update "original loan amount" only and does so accordingly.

How do I activate Skip Locator?

Simply choose "98=Credit Grantor cannot locate consumer" from the drop down menu in the payment status field under the Inquiry reference section before clicking submit button.

How do I add a special informational message to the database regarding a specific consumer?

Simply click on the 'display all fields' box located in top right hand corner of the screen. 

Then choose the applicable "Special comment code" under the Inquiry reference section from the drop down menu before clicking submit button.
