Client Holiday Readiness Series: Hardening Holiday Security

October 18, 2016 by River Xin

The “Client Holiday Readiness Series” is a window into how Experian Marketing Services is helping clients succeed during the busy holiday season along with some helpful tips as clients prepare their campaigns.  This series provides information on the products, support, and services we offer and how they are helping clients succeed during the crucial holiday period.

Holiday season is around the corner, and this year promises to be a big one. According to Deloitte Consulting, online commerce sales for the November to January shopping season are expected to lift 17% year over year, up to $96 billion. Experian Marketing Services understands how crucial this period is for so many businesses, and that’s why we’ve been aggressively hardening our operating systems, infrastructure and ciphers to ensure a secure holiday season for our clients and their customers.

OS and technology platform updates

The confidentiality, integrity and availability of our customers’ information are vital to their business operations and our own success. That’s why Experian Marketing Services has taken steps to ensure our service environment is not prone to known exploits or system weakness.

  • To protect our technology from modern vulnerabilities – both internally and externally – we have taken advantage of the latest and greatest technologies to aggressively secure and update our technology platforms – from the operating systems down to the underlying infrastructural platforms.
  • As our teams proactively monitor and detect issues before they occur, a new, streamlined vulnerability assessment process means our security teams are able to quickly respond to any issues with speed and efficiency.

OpenSSL cipher strengthening

The Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) is an organization dedicated to providing best practices and industry guidelines for application security and vulnerability assessment. Experian Marketing Services follows OWASP best practices by supporting only strong SSL/TLS cipher suites to ensure confidentiality and integrity of our client data in transit.

Over the past several months, we have made dramatic progress in implementing the strongest, industry-proven cryptographic ciphers and algorithms to be used in the case of data exchanges between our client, their customers and Experian Marketing Services. By doing this, we have effectively minimized the potential for man-in-the-middle attacks that would have the potential for sensitive data exposure or data integrity tempering during data transmissions.

Our clients are at the heart of our business, and the protection of customer data is our highest priority. Experian Marketing Services is constantly evaluating and improving our applications, systems and processes so that you can be confident in the security of your data and focus on your customers’ holiday experience.
