Google share of searches at 65 percent in October 2011
New York, N.Y., Nov. 16, 2011 — Experian® Hitwise®, a part of Experian Marketing Services, announced today that Google accounted for 65.38 percent of all U.S. searches conducted in the four weeks ending Oct. 29, 2011. The combined Bing-powered search comprised 28.62 percent of searches for the month, with Yahoo! Search and Bing receiving 15.39 percent and 13.23 percent, respectively. The remaining 66 search engines in the Hitwise Search Engine Analysis report accounted for 6 percent of U.S. searches.
One-word search queries increase 3 percent in October 2011
One-word search queries increased 3 percent from September 2011 to October 2011. One-word searches comprised the majority of searches too, amounting to 27.23 percent of all queries. Shorter search queries — one to four words — were flat from September 2011 to October 2011. Longer search queries — those averaging five to eight words or more — decreased 2 percent from September 2011 to October 2011.
