My roles and responsibilites at Direct Energy is in credit, debt and pre-paid strrategies. I'm part of a team that manages credit and debt across North America.
Our biggest challenge within our company in the retail energy space is primarily in the Texas market. There's a lot of movement of customers. 1/3 of the households will change energy providers over the course of a year, so it's always challenging to keep those customers, find the right risk categories and credit decisioning - finding that balance between taking on acceptable risk and growth. So, we try to work hand and hand with our strategy teams on the sales and acquisition side to get the right credit policy that involves taking the acceptable risk, as well as keeping churn intact.
One of the Experian products that we use that has helped us is Transact SMSM. And, within Transact we've optimized Transact on a number of occasions. And, we are continuing to optimize Transact. The fraud tools, such as Precise IDSM for example, has not only helped with our ability to mitigate against fraud at the acquisition stage, but was also instrumental when the FACTA rules came in.
We've been working with Experian about four years. Experian has been extremely helpful. We’ve gotten to the point where we’ll reach out to Experian, and put the ideas out and let them know what we’re looking to do. They’ll come back with a high-level solution that we can go back to the respective teams and discuss if those solutions will work for us, and along with the associated timelines and costs. Typically, our experience is they deliver the projects on time and on budget. Prioritization is an issue sometimes within our organization, as we have a number of different initiatives ongoing with Experian, so finding the right priority for those projects can sometimes be challenging more internally for ourselves – one may have more visibility, the other is delivering value. Our challenge is to get that balance.
