In March 2010, 150,000 consumers filed for bankruptcy, which represents the highest monthly consumer-filing total since the Bankruptcy Code was revised in 2005, according to data from the National Bankruptcy Research Center (NBKRC). The March 2010 filings are a 34 percent increase from the February 2010 filings and a 23 percent increase compared with March 2009. Bankruptcy scores are a tool that organizations can use to identify consumers at risk to reduce further losses.
