New bankcard account delinquency
trends worsen

Delinquency levels for newly opened bankcard accounts continue to rise amid the struggling economy. Ninety-day late or greater delinquency rates for VantageScore® near-prime consumers with accounts open less than a year increased from 0.93 percent to 1.36 percent from Q4 2006 to Q4 2008.  An increase also was seen for VantageScore prime and superprime consumers, with delinquency rates on recently opened accounts increasing from 0.13 percent of bankcard accounts to 0.25 percent of bankcard accounts during the same two-year window.
