Google+ growth since launch

On Tuesday, June 28th, Google launched their latest foray in the social networking arena with Google+. In the days following the launch, as invites became more readily available, visits to Google+ steadily increased, particularly between July 5th and July 12th. To date, Tuesday, July 12th and Thursday, July 14th were the peak days for total visits.

For the week ending July 19, 2011, the average visit time for Google+ was five minutes and fifty seconds up from four minutes and fifty two seconds the week prior. While the average visit time has increased since launch, in comparison, users spent an average of 21 minutes and fifty seven seconds on Facebook last week.
The combination of Google and Gmail accounted for over 50% of all upstream traffic to Google+ last week, with additional referrals from other Google properties like YouTube and Google Profiles. Facebook ranked 3rd among websites visited immediately before Google+, not surprising since many social network users tend to maintain multiple accounts, especially to experiment with new social networks.

The highest share of visits to Google+ since launch is from those between the ages of 25-34 and those between 18 and 34 were more likely than the overall online population to visit. The audience to Google+ tends to be more affluent, over-indexing for those earning a household income of $60k and over, particularly $150k and up.

  1. It is nice to see Google’s social layer growing but how long will it grow? I don’t think it will ever get to Facebook status because the efforts are too forced.

  2. Oh no please not another Google+ article?

Err yes actually. I have been playing with Google+ as have most of the more techies I know and I have read a few interesting articles. However, if I see another Google+ post telling me how to use it I think I am going to scream. However, if that’s wh…

  3. I like Google + the most. If +1 works, it will not only improve search quality, but also make ads more engaging. This may potentially improve Google’s ads, and eventually may turn into a core social product that can expand in new directions

I don’t really understand the over representation of $150k+ users, but the other demos and low usage patterns vs facebook is to be expected.

Not sure what you mean by this. The only promotion that I’ve seen for this has been a few youtube videos. I don’t even think they’ve done much in the way of PR outside a few targeted press releases. Their growth is organic and still in the very early stages of adoption…

  4. I have not yet started using Google+ Let’s hope it will be top social networking site in the near future. Facebook and twitter will be their top competitors.

Se debe seguir el monitoreo de la continuidad de uso de los usuarios, puede que sea la novedad lo que presente el crecimiento.
Se debería medir cuantas veces un usuarios ingresa a la misma red y poder ponderar el usu real de la misma.
