Hold on to your Manolos – the US release of the Sex and the City movie is finally here. My colleague in the UK covered the excitement overseas surrounding the movie and last night the ladies of SATC finally returned to Manhattan. The movie premiered in New York City surrounded by much fanfare, but unfortunately also with many disappointed fans that were denied entry.
As excitement builds among the aficionados of the beloved HBO series, the weekly market share of visits to the movie’s website jumped 33% to reach its highest point for the week ending May 24, 2008, the week following the premieres in London & Berlin.

It’s pretty likely that many of those visitors will be seeing the movie this weekend since 21% immediately visited Fandango afterwards and another 4.5% visited Moviefone to check movie times and ticket availability.
Searches for ‘sex and the city’ have remained fairly strong thanks to the continuation of the show through syndication. The movie is of course driving renewed interest and a search term suggestions report for the 4 weeks ending May 24, 2008 on the search query ‘sex and the city’ confirms that fans are looking for information about the movie – especially spoilers and reviews. Quotes have also been popular along with searches for a specific episode from the first season of the series called ‘The Drought’.

Surprisingly searches for cosmopolitans have not increased, so I guess all of the fans already know how to mix that cocktail after 10 years of Sex and the City!
