I came across an excellent analysis from Rich Skrenta here regarding Google’s search engine share. Rich approached the question about search engine share from a site owner’s perspective and revealed that based on his analysis using Hitwise stats, that Google has at least a 70% share of search referrals.
What better time to update our list of the top search engines based on volume of executed searches. The numbers below are based on the executed searches of 10MM Internet users across the top 55 search engines in four week rolling periods.

As far as the delta between our 62.8% for Google and Rich’s 70% projection, I think John Battelle has a point here, that when looking at top sites (Rich’s analysis) versus all sites, there may be a difference in search referral percentage. Rich thanks for starting such an interesting discussion.
