Twitter has attracted some very high profile users in the last three years with Britney Spears, Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher, Stephen Fry and Jonathan Ross all big advocates of the micro-blogging platform. However, the most popular celebrity to use Twitter of recent months is Hollywood socialite Kim Kardashian.
Kim’s Twitter feed is regularly updated with tweets and the actress has accumulated a following of nearly 5 million fans on Twitter. The table below shows the top websites to receive traffic from Twitter, Kim’s is the 54th most popular website in all categories, and the 20th most popular website in the Entertainment category.
The star’s official website http://kimkardashian.celebuzz.com/ has been optimised for Twitter with a prominent part of the homepage dedicated to the Twitter feed, keeping fans up to date on what Ms Kardashian is up to.
Such has been the success of Kim Kardashian’s Twitter feed, her website receives nearly as much traffic from Twitter as it does from Google. As the website comes to rely more on Twitter for its traffic, the number of visitors from Google dips in clear correlation. Now one, in every five visits to Kim’s homepage comes from Twitter.
This is an important indication of how important web 2.0 platforms have become when attracting visitors to websites. Are the days of Googles dominance over?
