Business credit cards on your personal credit report

Dear Experian,

I am the sole proprietor of an LLC. Will credit cards in my name and the name of the business show up on my personal credit report?

Dear AHK,

The answer depends on how you are associated with the business accounts. If you acted as a cosigner or guarantor for the business credit cards, and the accounts are in your name as well as the name of the business, they will likely appear on your personal credit report as well as your business credit report. If you are not a personal guarantor of the accounts, they may not appear on your personal report.

Anytime you agree to be personally responsible for payments on the company’s accounts, the accounts may appear on your personal credit report, too.

If you do not know whether the creditors are reporting the accounts on your personal credit report, you can request a free report once every 12 months. To learn how go to http://www.experian.com/assistance/free-annual-credit-report.html.

Thanks for asking.
