Individual payments to collection agency not always reported

Dear Experian,

I am currently making payments on accounts that are on my credit report. Do the credit bureaus recognize my payments that I’m paying to the collection agency?

Dear AYR,

While some collection agencies may update the remaining balance on the account as you make payments, the status will continue to show “collection account” until the account is paid in full.

Once the balance is paid off, the collection agency will update the status of the account to a “Paid in full collection account.” The account will continue to show that it was in collections prior to being paid, and may also show the original amount of the debt that was owed to the collection agency.

The paid collection account will be deleted seven years from the original delinquency date of the original account.

Thanks for asking.
