Can I cancel a fraud victim statement so I’m not asked a billion questions anymore when I apply for a loan?
The fact that lenders “ask you a billion questions” each time you apply is a sure sign that the statement is working. The lenders are responding to the statement by taking additional measures to verify your identity to stop fraud.
If you feel you no longer need the statement, you can request that it be removed. For your protection, you will need to submit your request in writing. Simply go to Experian’s online fraud center and select “Removing a fraud alert.”
You will be taken to a form that provides instructions for requesting that the alert be removed and the mailing address to which you will need to send it.
Simply complete the form, mail it to Experian with the identification documents listed in the instructions and Experian will remove the victim statement from your credit report.
