Information is deleted automatically at the end of the seven year period

Do you have to request information be removed when it is time to be deleted, or will it just to fall off?

Dear MCC,

You do not have to ask that information be removed from your credit history. Experian tracks the appropriate timeframes and automatically deletes the information.

Federal law specifies when certain information must be deleted, and some state laws add additional requirements. The information in your credit report is monitored to ensure the applicable regulations are met.

That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t check your credit report, though. You are an important part of the credit reporting process. You should review your credit report at least once a year to make sure all of your information is being reported correctly. You can get free copies from each of the national credit reporting companies once every 12 months at http://www.annualcreditreport.com/.

You might also consider subscribing to a credit monitoring service if you would like to review your credit report regularly, are concerned about fraud or are considering applying for new credit in the future.
