Business credit card not appearing on personal credit report

Dear Experian,

I have a business credit card that I am the only one who uses and pays. Does this business card help my personal credit score if I keep it in good standing? Right now it does not show up on my personal credit report. How can I make it happen?

- BYN

Dear BYN,

Unless you used your personal credit as part of the application for the business credit card, it will not appear in your personal credit report.

Your company will have its own business credit report. Credit accounts issued to the business, including the one you mention, often will appear in the business credit report. You can request a copy of a business report at http://www.experian.com/.

Although the credit card has your name on it, the business is fully responsible for the debt. Because you have no personal responsibility to pay the debt, it typically isn’t reported as part of your personal credit report.

It is not uncommon for small business owners to use their personal credit to help finance their business. In those cases, the credit accounts may appear on the personal credit report, or both the business credit report and the personal credit report because the individual’s personal credit history was used to secure the account.

Thanks for asking.
