Inquiries from employers are only shown to you

Do inquiries from other other potential employers show up when another employer looks at your credit report?

Dear FRN,

No. Employers will not see inquiries from other employers if you are searching for a new job.

Inquiries for employment purposes are shown only to you when you get your personal report from Experian. They are not included on credit reports provided to other employers, to lenders or to other businesses that may review your credit history.

Neither are inquiries for insurance purposes, for preapproved credit offers, or for getting your own report.

You can read more about inquiries in my previous columns. The basic rule of thumb, though, is that if the inquiry is not related to an application for credit or other services that involve a regular payment no one will see it but you.
